The prologue is currently screening in 10 select theaters worldwide that are equipped for IMAX 70mm presentations. These showings are in advance of the main release of The Odyssey, which is notable for being the first blockbuster entirely shot on IMAX film cameras.
Where to See the Prologue
Until December 26, the prologue is exclusively available before IMAX 70mm re-releases of Sinners and One Battle After Another. These specific screenings are limited to only 8 theaters in the United States, 1 in Canada, and 1 in the United Kingdom.
Starting December 19, the prologue will be shown before all IMAX screenings of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Note that these screenings will feature a full-length trailer for The Odyssey, not the entire prologue.
What’s Inside the Prologue?
The prologue, as reported by Variety and World of Reel, delves into the climax of the Trojan War. It depicts the Greek forces, led by Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), hidden within the iconic Trojan Horse. The sequence builds tension as Odysseus and his soldiers await their moment, culminating in a large-scale battle. Damon is shown in action, firing a bow and arrow.
This narrative is presented as a story told by Sparta’s King Menelaus (Jon Bernthal) to Odysseus’ son, Telemachus (Tom Holland). The film’s ensemble cast also includes Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Mia Goth, though they do not appear in the prologue. The prologue also features an animatronic cyclops.
The Odyssey is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18.
