IMAX 70mm Screenings
The prologue is being shown ahead of the IMAX 70mm re-releases of two acclaimed films: Sinners and One Battle After Another. These special screenings, running for one week, are available in only 10 theaters worldwide, with eight in the United States, one in Canada, and one in the United Kingdom. This format is Nolan’s preferred choice for The Odyssey, which is the first blockbuster to be shot exclusively on IMAX film cameras.
Wider IMAX Screenings
For those unable to access the IMAX 70mm showings, the prologue will also be available starting December 19th in front of all standard IMAX screenings of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Note that these showings will feature a full-length trailer for The Odyssey, not the entire prologue.
What to Expect in the Prologue
The prologue reportedly recreates the climax of the Trojan War, focusing on the legendary wooden horse ploy. It centers on Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his soldiers’ tense wait inside the horse before a large-scale battle ensues, featuring Damon in action with a bow and arrow. The sequence is framed as a story told by Sparta’s King Menelaus (Jon Bernthal) to Odysseus’ son Telemachus (Tom Holland). While other cast members like Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Mia Goth are not featured, the prologue does include an animatronic cyclops.
